Vegetable Oil Refinery: CMB for the Verborg Group Plant

CMB is glad to announce the completion of another start-up of a Vegetable Oil Refinery in northern Netherlands. The innovative and visionary Client is the Verborg Group.

In just 12 months CMB S.p.A. designed, built, delivered and commissioned, a Vegetable Oil Refinery, intended to produce top quality edible oil starting from Crude Palm Oil (CPO), Crude Palm Kernel Oil (CPKO) and Coconut Oil (CNO).

This edible oil Refinery project, which represents an important pole of excellence for sustainability in Europe, was developed thanks to the synergy between the two Companies, which led to the use of advanced technologies for the employment of utilities powered only by totally renewable sources. The Client has truly invested in the future by creating a green chain of sustainability.

CMB focused the engineering approach on the optimization of resources, offering a final product with highest quality standards but reducing, at the same time, the environmental impact.

A special design was created ad hoc for this project, through the comprehensive study of heat recovery and energy consumption savings.

CMB customised the plant to Client’s real needs, with several smart solutions, including but not limited to:

• ICE Condensing Vacuum System, designed by CMB, to drastically reduce the steam consumption and the production of waste water;
• Advanced Electrical Power Optimization, to limit the power consumption to the minimum needed;
• Advanced Energy Recovery within the plant, to ensure the maximization of usage of resources, reducing drastically any energy waste;

All the above, and also other technical features introduced by CMB, have led to a reduction of the environmental impact and also energy consumption saving triggering a virtuous circle, since the lower use of energy also reduces the carbon footprint.

The value of this partnership, however, goes far beyond the completion of another high-level project in Europe, because the project involving CMB S.p.A. was extremely complex and saw the complete redevelopment of an old and disused industrial site in Groningen, transformed in a year into a cutting-edge-green Refinery. This is a clear example of how a WIN-WIN strategy could have been built between two players who share values and vision.
